Billy Napier might have just hired the interim head coach that could replace him at Florida in 2024

It's no secret that Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier is on the hot seat entering the 2024 season. 

Napier is 11-14 through two seasons at Florida. 

The Gators finished the 2023 season on a five-game losing streak, which prevented the program from reaching a bowl game. 

Missing a bowl game in year two doesn't go over well at a program like Florida. If the Gators continue down that same path in 2024, it seems likely that Napier will be fired before the end of the season. 

And if Napier gets canned, his (interim) replacement could end up being a coach that he hired this week. 

According to Swamp247, the Gators are hiring former Arkansas offensive coordinator Dan Enos to serve in an off-field role. Enos will focus on "advanced scouting and head coach projects" according to Swamp247. 

Enos served as the head coach at Central Michigan from 2010 to 2014. That head coaching experience combined with the fact that he's in an off-field role makes Enos the perfect candidate to serve as Florida's interim head coach if Napier is fired. Promoting Enos to that position would allow Florida's coordinators to continue in their same role, which is always the best situation in a scenario where the head coach is fired. Promoting a coordinator to interim head coach means replacing a coordinator -- which can be dicey mid-season. That won't be the case if Enos is promoted. 

Maybe Napier turns things around and survives the season and Enos won't be needed to serve as the interim head coach. That's always possible. But based on what we've seen from Napier so far at Florida, I wouldn't bet on Gainesville being his address for much longer.
