Report: EuroLeague Clubs Monitoring Situation of Usman Garuba
USA TODAY Sports

It's been an interesting summer for former first-round pick Usman Garuba, who spent the first two seasons of his NBA career with the Houston Rockets. Over the past month, he was traded from the Rockets to the Atlanta Hawks and then ultimately landed in Oklahoma City with the Thunder. As much upside as he has, the Thunder are facing a roster crunch with 21 players currently on the team. As such, several players will need to be traded or cut before the end of training camp in October.

If he were to become a free agent later this offseason, he would have no shortage of suitors. Before coming to the NBA, he spent time in EuroLeague play with Real Madrid. Now, heading back overseas may be in his future if he doesn't make the cut in OKC.

According to Harris Stavrou of SPORT24, EuroLeague clubs are monitoring Garuba's situation, especially since the Thunder may have to make the tough decision to cut him ahead of the upcoming season.

If Garuba is cut by the Thunder to get under the 15-man number in the next few months, Garuba will certainly have the interest of teams in the NBA and overseas. He would at that point have a wide variety of options. At just 21 years old with tremendous defensive upside, he is a highly intriguing prospect.

However, it wouldn't be surprising if he ultimately makes the team in Oklahoma City with how well he fits the timeline and due to the skillset he possesses.
