Seahawks GM says team's biggest need is 'fairly obvious'

The Seahawks roster has seen a ton of turnover under head coach Mike Macdonald's new regime, and it seems that is going to continue soon.

General manager John Schneider was upfront that more moves are coming with the hope of strengthening an area of need.

"We're going to be bringing a couple of veteran offensive linemen through in this second phase of free agency, and then comparing that what the draft looks like," Schneider said via the team's website. "That is a need on our team right now, I think it's fairly obvious."

Seattle has already made several additions to its offensive line in recent weeks after losing both of its starting guards, Damien Lewis (Panthers) and Evan Brown (Cardinals), in free agency.

The team signed former Texans offensive tackle George Fant, former Rams guard Tremayne Anchrum Jr. and former Browns center Nick Harris.

However, the only addition that has a good chance to start in 2024 is Harris, a fifth-round pick by Cleveland in 2020. The 25-year-old allowed zero sacks on 371 snaps played in 2023, per Pro Football Focus.

Schneider's recent comments hint that the Seahawks aren't done adding to their offensive line and it could be with potential starters.

Who that could be is up for debate, but some of the top offensive linemen still available on the open market are former Dolphins center Connor Williams, former Jets tackle Mekhi Becton and former Vikings guard Dalton Risner.

It's also likely that the Seahawks bolster their offensive line with their first-round pick (No. 16) in the 2024 NFL Draft, which is rich with offensive line talent.

Seattle's offensive line played a large role in the team averaging the fifth-fewest rushing yards per game (92.9) in the league last season. It's safe to say the team will do everything it can to prevent that from happening again in 2024.
